The Arrival of Spring

The roots press deep into the ground,
down to where the soil is warm,
absorbing the melting snow
to feed its own growth.

The stem rises to the surface,
pressing through the lightly frosted earth.

It breaks through,
the bud opens
and the flower spreads itself beneath the sun.

Spring has arrived.
